Life's tangled skein

Road Closed

I went for my longest Long Slow Run (http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/246017857/122779) today, as part of my preparation for the Glasgow Half Marathon. For a change of scenery, I started from Dunblane, heading down to Stirling University then back through Bridge Of Allan. My route took my up the Glen Road, and when I saw a sign saying "Road Closed" I chose to disregard it. Closed roads only affect cars, don't they?

Well, around mile 8 of the run, I found out why the road was closed. The road was enclosed by a metal fence, and inside that fenced area there was a large gap where the road should have been. Pipes and cables that would normally have been buried underground were exposed, and the tarmac that should have covered them was littering the hillside.

Luckily, there was still about a foot of road left, and a beaten-down path in the grass showed how to squeeze past the fence. Soon I was on my way again, having lost my excuse to walk a few paces!
