Restoration

A bit of a lazy Blip today as I'm sheltering from the rain. Having said that its not exactly lazy in terms of the work I'm doing on this.

This is a very, very old photograph taken in Spain which was in a terrible state. I have been restoring it as best I can.

Firstly, although it was already Black & White, I converted it again to Black and White to remove some of the shading tones caused by age. Then I did things like boosting contrast and brightness.

However, by far the most difficult part has been the Cloning and Healing, which was needed to remove marks and tears. The reason for the difficulty was that the paper used in the original is not a straightforward Matt or Glossy, but a kind of Pearl which is slightly embossed with slight but visible lines across it. That made it almost impossible to repair cleanly. Anyway its not intended to win any awards, so what I have now will be acceptable.

Tonight it will be presented as a surprise to one of the guys in the picture with about another 30 people present. I'm expecting a lot of laughter and a bit of embarrassment (in a nice way!).
