Cudgels at dawn

Phallus impudicus aka the Stinkhorn - and I can confirm the aptness of the latter too! Apparently some Victorians, including Charles Darwin's granddaughter, Etty Darwin, were so offended by the form of these fungi that in an attempt to kill them off they attacked them with cudgels at dawn . These days we just take pictures of them ;)
