Sunrise, Mesa arch, Canyonlands

Worth viewing LARGE to see the textures.

A very early (5,45am) start, drove to Canyonlands and walked up to Mesa arch for the sunrise, only to find a row of photographers already there. A cloudy start and no sun meant almost all of them gave up and left before the sun finally appeared over the low cloud. All the best for us, as we then had choice of position. Once the sun had got up just that bit higher, we managed not only to get the glow on the underside of the arch (which happens more from the sun reflecting off the stone below than the direct light of the low sun), but also a touch of direct sunlight on the foreground.

I also managed to walk over the top of the arch - one of the scariest things I've done in a while!

After a late brunch, we spent rest of the day in Arches park. Such an amazing place!
