Être sociable

We came back from Kids Club to find a note on our table demanding that we came to a barbeque with two families who, living next door to each other and having children the same age, made friends very quickly. Now our only problem was that we had to visit every other family before we could head to theirs, and of course everyone was out so we had to wait until the evening before we could even begin. Evening came around, and we started visits separately to try and get them all done…which didn’t sit very well with the children! The children began by asking us why we were not together, followed by running between the two of us and telling one where the other was! Of course, all the families found this hilarious, as both of us were wandering round seeing how everyone was with an entourage of at least seven children varying in ages from five to twelve each. Nothing like trying to do your job with a group of children asking you what you’re doing! It ended up going in our favour however, as all the children wanted to come to the “cheese and wine party” and started begging their parents to be able to go, so we already have definite attendance from the majority of the campsite. Our final Cheese and Wine is going to be a bigg’un!

The children this week are possibly my favourite set so far, and Kids Club has had the biggest attendance yet, with twenty-six children on one day! I would definitely say that I attract the younger girls, who especially love plaiting and brushing my hair, while Thom gets a lot of attention from the older boys as they love playing sport with him. Saying that, he usually ends up giving shoulder rides for an entire evening if he stays outside for too long! I will admit, it is going to be strange not having a fan club when I get back home…I thought it would be strange leaving my fan club at the collège, but then it turns out it was just replaced by a new, younger, one here in Brittany. So again, I admit, it will be strange going back to England and no longer having an entourage of children! Probably for the best…

Once all visits were done, it was absolutely lovely to relax and spend some time with the two families and their children. Also lovely to not have to cook for ourselves I must admit, as well as spending some time in a social situation where it is not just a social situation of two!
