Isis
Introducing Isis to Blip. Now we have known this little dog since she was a puppy, and she recognises us as family…which is obviously adorable. Every time we see her she gets so excited that she bounces around us both, running between the two of us, seemingly unable to choose who is her favourite or who she should lavish more attention on. After I’ve had a quick chat with her owner to see how everyone is and what they have been up to, it is time for her and Isis to leave…unfortunately Isis has other ideas, doing the “rug impression” shown in this photograph. The only way to get her to leave is for one of us to go with them for a little bit, or for her owner to pick her up and carry her. It is nice to be loved.
So, this weekend is our final arrivals weekend thank goodness for that, so of course there had to be problems. Once again we had a family who turned up that was not on our arrivals sheet. This is now the third time this season, and the third time that I have had to sit down and make small talk with a family while Thom raced round and tried to do an entire customer clean in as quick a time as he could while I had to very quickly make friends with strangers. Luckily they were really affable, had used the company before, and were more than happy to chat. It was also very lucky that the van in question that they were to be put in had been left in a very good state, meaning that Thom didn’t have to scrub an oven or anything like that which would have wasted a lot of time. Thank heavens for small mercies.
Event number two of the day was getting a phone call from a family who had just left asking us if we had seen their passports and travel documents. Cue heart attack from Thom and I, and we did find them very quickly. Problem was, was that the family had already travelling halfway to Calais and did not have the time to turn around and go back to get said passports as they had to check in to their hotel between certain times or lose their room. Serendipitously I suppose, they were not travelling back to England until the day after, so they did have some time, but no real way of getting back to the campsite. Cue me talking to my manager, who expressly forbade me giving them to any other customers going to Calais the next day (of which there were a few) due to identity theft etc. I then got back on the phone with the customer, who actually worked in identity theft prevention, who said he was going to write an document freeing us and the company of any liability if only we could give the passports to someone to give to them. Thankfully this seemed to do the trick with my manager, and we were allowed to give them to another family who were more than happy to help. Hopefully everything will go according to plan and everyone will be able to travel home…
Another unexpected event of today was one that was much nicer. A family had asked if we needed anything from the supermarket because they were going, and so we had asked for some fruit…what we were not expecting was some absolutely gorgeous chocolate from the specialist chocolate shop in Concarneau. Now that certainly is a way to cheer up a day! The evening meal ended up being pancakes, savoury and sweet of course…although our array of jams and chocolate spreads and sprinkles would most definitely make anyone jealous. Needless to say, I probably had more sweet ones than savoury…
