Back to whirlwind life
I have just realised somehow I have missed a day on my blips.
Last night states we stayed in besancon. When infact we stayed in Epernay as recommended by husbands client. It is the home of champagne.
We decided after our most splendid curry the night before (every decent town has a Taj Mahal) plus a fortnight of eating out we would settle for a bed picnic after a stroll around Epernay.
I could not settle as I was so nervous for our road trip / crossing ahead. Husband I think sensed my nerves after the umpteenth trip to the loo in the night so declared at 4am we could set off if we wanted. Huuuuuuge relief on my part I couldn't dress quickly enough. I hadn't settled since he received a text from euro tunnels there may be delays due to security checks.
We set off in the dark on our final homeward leg.
We arrived at the border at 9am. We're pleased we set off so early. The place is rammed already with happy holiday makers making their way home its the end of the school holidays.
When we check in the screen tells us we can get an early crossing at 9.36 - thank god I don't think I could have stood the suspense of waiting for our original 12.30 crossing.
We join the queues for security checks and have our steering wheel and drivers door swabbed for explosives.
The French gents behind us in our carriage get into the spirit of it all by cracking open a few beers from their boot. It's amazing how quiet hundreds of people can be and the lovely sound of happy banter that erupts when we land.
We pull over for fuel and husband makes his only driving faux pas by going round the services roundabout the wrong way.
We arrive home late lunchtime enough time to see my lovely cousin and daughter before they leave.
The boys are pleased to see us. AND RIGHTLY SO
A quick power nap and change then off to the rugby club with em and stu for the jones Robinson summer ball.
We are home by midnight. Husband and stu have to be up early for the moto gp at silverstone stu managed to get complimentary tickets for.
There is just no place like home.
