Parham House
We visited here today and this is a view from the walled garden back up to the house and the South Downs behind. It was a wonderful, peaceful place - if you get the chance to go there, do! I hadn't been there since my teens and didn't remember much about it really, so was very surprised at how much I enjoyed it today! We started with a picnic at a table - the wind instantly blew up and then wasps turned up so we retreated hastily to the car! Much warmer in there! However, the weather was reasonably warm with some sun while we were going round the garden, so that was good. The house was very interesting - a lot of 16th and 17th century paintings, all in very good condition (unlike at Petworth where a lot of them looked as though they needed a good clean!) I remembered the Long Gallery from when I went there as a teen - I think it was the only thing that impressed me at that time. I didn't tell hubby and son how impressive it was so that they could be surprised by it!! We had a cream tea in the early afternoon, which was lovely with home-baked scones. So, a good day though we're all pretty exhausted - hubby is asleep in a chair at present!
