Tropical fruit?

Day 9 of HeartFreek's September challenge - creation

When I first picked this up in the park I didnt quite know what it was. Then I realised that as time goes by a fir cone would be created from this living matter. I had never really given any thought to where fir cones come from so I will make an effort to trace their life cycle.
Weekend away with the in laws was interesting. They are 80 and 85 yrs old and getting more and more deaf. They also have the brightness/colour on their TV turned up. On Saturday we had to sit through Strictly (which I have never watched) with the sound and colour so loud it hurt!
My father in law had to flee from Poland when he was 10 yrs old. It is a story I have heard bits of over the years but on Sunday morning he was telling Conventboy1 the story for the first time and we both sat there enthralled. Their journey covered most of Europe and East Africa and took the whole duration of the war. Even when they got to England life was hard for quite few years.
I think it made us both realise how good and easy our lives are today.
