Hovering Death
I see tons of beautiful, close-up images of Kingfishers on here and elsewhere on the web. The bloody Kingfishers in Miners Marsh are so skittish, just taking a lens cap off has them scurrying for the other side of the marsh.
All summer the dogs, "T", and I have been watching the Kingfishers hover about 50 feet above the water and then dive-bomb to catch fish. Of course they scurry off somewhere to eat the catch, out of lens view, but it's cool to watch.
As luck would have it, I must have found a hungry Kingfisher that is a poor fisher. This poor dude(-tte) made many a dive, but only came up with a fish once. Therefore I had time to open up the zoom, crank up the ISO, and fire the D300 like a machine gun, or maybe just paparazzi going after pics of the newest Royal.
The result is a several image blend that captures the essence of a Kingfisher fishing!
