Le stress a disparu

The pressure is finally off (well, at least for a week)! It is so nice to have a little less to do now (when everything is done what more is there to do!). It is a surprising state of mind when having “less to do” means that you can have an hour down at the pool instead of working all day! As normal, we ran Kids Club in the morning and we had already seen the number of sporty and active children from arrivals so we decided to make it a very sports orientated week. We started this new resolution by going down to the pitches at the bottom of the site and playing some games, the three main ones being:-
- Hot Rice – a bit like dodgeball, the idea of the game is to hit the players who are not “on” below the waist. Two hits and that player joins the other team. The game begins with two people being “on”, but this game is also a little like netball…once the ball is in someone’s hands they cannot move, only throw to their other team member to get the others “out”
- Poddy One-Two-Three – Two people are “on”. They have to count up to thirty while the other people have to go and hide. Those who are “on” have to guard the base and try and tag everyone out as they try and reach the base. Once they have touched base they have to shout “Poddy One-Two-Three” and then they are safe. The people on base can form a human chain with one person still attached to base to help any stragglers who are still not safe
- French cricket – The lone batsman stands stationary with the bat protecting their legs, their legs being the "stumps". Everyone else stands in a circle around the batsman and whichever other player has the ball throws it at the batsman attempting to get them out by hitting their legs. If the batsman hits the ball, the other participants may also get them out by a catch. If the batsman does not hit the ball then they are not allowed to move their feet to face the new direction the ball comes from.

Quick wander along the coast brought this photograph to life. Admittedly looks rather desolate in mono, but I thought that it would make a different photograph than the usual colourful ones of this coastline that I have been doing more recently!

Unfortunately the day started with drizzle, but we distracted the children with sports so they were not too bothered about it being slightly damp. Luckily for us there was beautiful sun later, even if we did have to sort linen! Another interesting event of today was having to tell off some French children who had attempted to start fights with the British children, and had come up to our part of the site to cause trouble…they looked pretty scared when I used “teacher voice” and when they realised I could speak French! Visits in the evening lead to me drinking three glasses of wine and a large glass of port while Thom is still in his teetotal challenge…not going to lie; Kids Club is going to be interesting in the morning…
