Kouign-amann
Today was the day of the Pirate Treasure Hunt. To make it more “realistic” we stained paper with tea, and then burned the edges. To be completely honest, Thom is much more a master of this than I am, as I managed to burn the entire treasure map to ashes, and then burn a lot of the words of the clues, leaving the children needing to first guess the sentence before they could figure out the clue! I bow to his superior burning skills. It was adorable to see just how excited the children were about the entire thing, made the effort that we had made well worth it…as well as the fact it lasted nearly the entire Kids Club, making things a lot easier for us! The treasure was of course some buried sweets and everyone was more than happy with them…although they did keep asking us where we had found the clues, to which we said that they had been put there in the night!
The afternoon was again spent fixing more things (more smoke alarms etc.) followed by a stint of cleaning windows, followed closed by the children offering to help and asking us many many questions that only children can ask! As soon as we had finished all the windows we had planned for the day we went down for a quick hour at the pool, clouds came in. Always sod’s law isn’t it?! The first taste of the Kouign-amann with dinner for Thom’s family tonight, with many requests for more! I have to say, there is little not to like…layers of pastry, butter and sugar and happiness!
A late evening walk along the coastal path with Thom and his dad produced this photograph. I really love the movement from Thom against the stillness of the rest of the scene. Was really nice to spend some time with just Thom and his dad, I really hope the family likes me! Darkness was falling on the way back, which is more dangerous than you think as there are no street lights around us. However, we were back just in time before it was too dark to see…lovely evening had by all I would say. Here is to tomorrow.
