Today was the day the fella took on Snowdon - and won! Around 23 miles of running, scrambling, swimming and obstacles. Although I didn't get up early enough to see him start, I did surprise him 5miles into the run (just before they headed up the mountain) as he was expecting me to still be in bed. After chilling out for a bit back at the cottage whilst they faced the worst of it, we went to llanberis to see them at the bottom of Snowdon before the obstacles. I actually got really emotional, nearly crying when I saw them in the distance. Jogged to meet them and ran with them for a little way before they had to carry on up a 1km uphill timed challenge. We made our way to the water obstacles section and had fun watching people trying to climb over a giant inflatable iceberg - wasn't impressed by those who gave up and just swam round but most people wouldn't give up and helped each other over. Was relieved when the fella came into view, as was our friend's son who ran to meet him shouting 'daddy, daddy' (which you can just see in this pic). Too cute.
Watched them climb the iceberg, swim through a tunnel and jump into the lake - not bad going after 20odd miles. I then ran with the buggy to the finish as they had one final swim. Made it just in time to see them help 2 people down the final obstacle before crossing the line at a touch under 6 hours. Very very proud.
Being away with another couple has actually been ok - partially as the fellas were both so knackered after their challenge we all just chilled out. Did my Florence nightingale bit by sticking a pin underneath the fella's toenail to relieve the pressure of a blood blister. Nice. Sure he'll return the favour sometime.
