I really wanted to go to Ellis Island but it's still being repaired. I hadn't really understood its location before - so near but yet so far - half way between the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan island.

Went through long airport-style security queues to reach the 9/11 memorial. The security is because they're still building the Freedom Tower which rises to a sharp point just beside the fountains. It's a very moving place - and choosing water flowing down somehow seems more appropriate than a memorial that reaches up into the sky.
