Hatton Locks (again)
It is Ann’s birthday today, not the big one, that was last year, but one year closer to her pension since the government moved the goalposts.
Last night we saw Peter Grimes at the Picture House, an excellent performance sung on Aldeburgh Beach. Today we met Maureen and Ian at the National Trust property, Baddesley Clinton, a moated manor house between Warwick and Solihull. It was pouring with rain for the first time in ages, over the last couple of months rain had restricted itself to overnight, with glorious sunny days, but today it rained. We decided to move back along the road to somewhere drier and met up again at The Hatton Arms. There we had coffee and lunch and a good chat, inside rather than in their excellent garden or on the patio.
After parting Ann and I wandered down to Hatton Locks for a walk along the canal as the rain had eased a little. We didn’t go too far but it was nice to get some air and walk off lunch.
Home later to watch the recording of Murray being beaten in the US Open, having managed to avoid hearing any match reports or results.
