Genetics

I was assigned to the genetics clinic today. Want to feel stupid? Just rotate a day in the genetics clinic; it's literally another realm of medicine that is unknown and full of things that you never thought possible.

The doc I was with had a book of many genetic disorders with pictures; I've seen similar books in other doc offices I've rotated with in the past. One of whom was a pediatric cardiologist who said "look through here and you'll be so thankful for the healthy children in your life." I didn't really get that seeing that I had no children nor entertained the idea when I was rotating with him many years ago. But now, after seeing and knowing a little more, there's no doubt you should give thanks.

It's amazing the biology of our bodies and the delicacy if our nature; it truly is. In the blink of an eye, or more likely, a division of a cell, things could alter a life course drastically.
