Vesuvius

We visited today the summit of Vesuvius using a combination of rather rickety bus, a very robust 4x4 type vehicle and , for the final 200 mtrs or so , leg power. The effort is worth it though as the walk around the crater is quite amazing while the views over Naples and its bay are breathtaking. Vesuvius is still an active volcano which is likely at some point to erupt again. It is thought however that this will be in hundreds of years time
