Amsterdam

The ferry crossing was excellent, my one complaint was the lack of free wifi. The cost of access was 10 euros and a seat in a quiet room. Otherwise a crossing to be recommended on a calm September evening.

We disembarked about 10.am Central European Time and set off to find the motor home camp site near the city of Amsterdam. Hardly a problem at all. The co ordinates i found on the internet for the camp site are wrong but the sat nav found it once we could match the shape of the road around the waterway with the picture from the website. The site is secure and only a few minutes walk to a free ferry which takes you right up to central station and the city centre.

The city was hot and busy, we didn't have a plan and wandered until we headed away from the middle of it all. Feeling in need of food and drink we spotted this courtyard which turned out to be the restaurant area for Amsterdam museum. Once settled I looked around and noticed these little cupboards, each used to display museum artefacts, many of which had something to do with alcohol. They looked attractive and blip worthy.

The information board explained the history of the square which ranges from a boys school to a glassmaker. Since 1762 120 of these little cupboards have lined the east wall of the square. The lockers had been originally built to store tools for orphans who were taught a trade or occupation, each encouraged to ensure a good income.

It was later I noticed the reflection of the diners in the courtyard. Lunch was very good, we continued the walk and arrived at pretty part of the city, the traditional buildings and waterways. It is beautiful.
