All in the Family
It was a long drive to Owen's dolphin themed 5th birthday party at the Pinole Swim Center. When we arrived with the teen age cousins, there were tons of kids and their parents, tables groaning with food, a watermelon carved like a shark with a mouthful of melon balls floating in a sea of blue jello and two pinatas. Most of the kids were in the pool along with a few long suffering dads who were playing with the kids. The fifty colored blown up balls floating in the pool were brilliant. The big boys and the little kids all had fun with them. When we got back home we sat out on our porch and had a glass of wine before falling into bed.
I had set aside today to clean the house, refresh the bouquet of zinnias from our garden and try to bring the house up to its fully restored glory in anticipation of the arrival of my brother and his wife Meg tomorrow on the one flight from San Diego to Santa Rosa. I was still reading the paper and thinking about dragging out the vacuum cleaner when the phone rang. I thought he was kidding when Rick wondered where we were because they were at the airport. Which airport? Santa Rosa!
Without taking time to understand what happened, we raced off to pick them up and were thrilled that they were here a day early! No need to drag out the vacuum any more....
