Hot Air Balloon Classic

Ever since we moved to Colorado 20 years ago, Labor Day weekend has always included getting up early Saturday, Sunday and Monday mornings, binoculars in hand, to see the myriad of hot air balloons dotting the sky.

When my daughters were young they delighted in seeing the odd shaped ones, like a cow or a champagne bottle. As they got older, they hoped for rain or high winds to ground the balloons so their father would not wake them so early!

Our newspaper says this year's event will have 83 balloons (I only counted 36 up in the air this morning) and 200,000 people attending the 3 day event. I'm so glad we can see all we want to see from our usual morning walk!
