Golden Makeover
This 2.5 metre high statue of the mermaid Nerissa, situated in Rotary Marine Park in Ganges, has recently been restored with a metallic gold finish. The sculpture was created by Thomas McPhee and was commissioned by the Salt Spring Rotary Club in 2001.
"As goddess of the sea and daughter of Poseidon, McPhee said, Nerissa watches over the ocean from the heart of the downtown core, reminding her landlubbing admirers to care for the sea, while honouring the Rotary Club's 'Service Above Self' motto."

I've wanted to blip this for quite awhile, but another Salt Spring blipper beat me to it. I couldn't resist today though, because I liked the way the sun was lighting the statue. I'm not overly fond of the golden colour, but it certainly attracts attention much more than the former dull greyish colour.
