Second attempt to buy Amelie new shoes. Last week shop was low on stock because it was shutting down. Today the three pairs she tried on were deemed not to fit by the assistants - come back next week - we've loads of new shoes in the back shop - just not out yet! Aargh - thought we might have a meltdown but the little poppet, who had said all pairs were comfortable, agreed to wait and slipped her flashing, sparkly trainers back on.

I always wanted wellingtons as a child, not fancy ones like these, but the old style black ones. For some reason my mum thought they were unhealthy, and I had to wear galoshes. Not the trendiest child in the school! I also always had brown shoes, bought too big with tissue paper in the toes, resoled and re- heeled for start of term.
How times have changed!
