Summer Isles -
at last we have made the sail across to the Summer Isles on our fourth visit here.
In the top picture you can see the viewpoint on the road from Achnahaird to Alt'andhu which gives you this glorious view over the Summer Isles. The nearest Island is Ristol and in the distance is the only inhabited island of Tanera Mor.
We took the boat from Badentarbert jetty and cruised around the islands to see the wonderful seal colonies. These are Common seals but all slightly different in appearance. We saw some of the caves and holes in the rocks before retuning to land on Tanera Mor where there are 9 residences, only two permanent the rest holiday homes, one of which is the cafe and post office. We bought post cards and island stamps and then had to quickly write them whilst having our cup of tea so that they would be franked on the island.
It would have been a perfect day as the sun came out as we set sail, but on our return we found that the car had been leaking oil! More to come!
