Nearly Over

The line of severe weather past through late yesterday but the worse of it was northeast of me. It will be over around noon today and has brought about .5 inches of rain to my area, far less than we hoped for but we'll take whatever we can get.  The rain knocked the last of the Trumpet flowers off the vine, but Henretta Hummer has already departed for points south. At one point it was, as my grandpa would say, "raining cats and dogs".  The origin of that phrase is unclear but most link it to Norse mythology, where Odin, the god of storms, was associated with dogs (representing wind), and cats were linked to witches, who were seen as harbingers of heavy rain. Well, the cats and dogs will be departing soon, and we will have much cooler, dryer weather this week.
