Chalk Art...

...at the Tot Lot. We opted for taking Spike to the soccer field and throwing his ball for him because he was the only one of the three of us with any energy. The combination of hot weather and not sleeping particularly well has left us both a bit listless and out of sorts. We walked down to the Tot Lot  below the field and sat on a bench there. I was intrigued by the chalk drawing on the pavement next to the bench. It's an odd combination of childish and complex. What could it be? I rather liked
the way the drawing contrasted with the shadows.

While I made my way through a few more squares, appliqued hearts today, I listened to several of our public radio station programs grapple with the feeling of apathy/helplessness/shock that seems to be gripping the nation over the takeover of our government and the trampling of our cherished values. At least we're not alone. I t's become a national conversation. I particularly liked one commentator who  said that the speed of the changes and the total disregard for the constitution or the rule of law has left us 'without a roadmap' for how to respond. I've often felt the same thing but lacked such a succinct way of putting it. Another program discussed the fact that peaceful protests DO have an effect, and that it takes 3.5% of the people showing up to make change happen.
There is a march against the super wealthy and in support of the workers here tomorrow which is the  Labor Day holiday, with others planned for cities around the country. I hope to go but it will be another hot day tomorrow and I'm not sure how well we'll manage standing in the sun...
