Peace Doves
(31/8/25 - I am determined to blip this day in the month that it happened! The reason it has taken so long is because there were so many images to choose from, it was hard to narrow it down. A collage is still to come.)
Well, despite a late night and long day yesterday, we were up and ready to be out in the morning for our second Blipmeet this trip. Eileen drove us to the station and we were soon on our way to London Bridge.
We were wending our way to the entrance of Southwark Cathedral when we saw Tigg taking photos of Borough Market! NICE! It meant the four of us went in together and pretty much stayed together through the many hours we were in the Cathedral. G had her DSLR, I just had my phone, so I had to borrow the camera a few times. The Peace Doves display was hard to capture, so I hope my picture gives a sense of it. My three friends were so game, making a dove of their own. :))) They are not just pieces of paper cut and glued together. Those wings move!
So, the day... It was my first time in Southwark Cathedral. I love how bright it was as you entered, and it was super to see stones with names of churches in the Diocese. It was even more exciting when we recognised some of them! The Cathedral itself is an oasis of calm. It was beautiful inside and exciting to see that William Shakespeare was an attendee here in his day!
We took our time going through the church, taking loads of photos. We then had a quick lunch in their cafe, before returning to attend the daily Eucharist. A memorial service for the Marchiones disaster, which happened exactly 36 years ago to the day, followed. I was so glad to be there and be part of something like that.
It was the most relaxed time being in a church, with like-minded friends, that we didn't feel the hours pass. We moved on to Borough Market after Tigg's husband and son joined us. It was great to see them again after almost eight years. S had wanted to try the crumble in Humble Crumble, so we queued up and placed our orders. That was another great experience! :))
All great things come to an end, and Tigg & family had to leave us to return home. Eileen, G & I walked along the river to Blackfriars so I could show G my office. It was a short walk to Southwark Station and then home via London Bridge. If all that wasn't enough, the day ended with a delicious home-cooked meal of sausage and mash! This has been one of the best days of the holiday!
PS. All the images in the second extra (collage) are taken by G.
