Marjorie's ramblings

By walkingMarj

A longish Sunday

I was due to walk with the Northumbria National Park today on a Geology walk led by Ian Jackson. Ian has a great knack of explaining Geology to the non-Geologists and is very entertaining.

I booked this ages ago and expected to be walking on one of my favourite routes, north of Hadrian’s Wall. It was not to be, but I went to the talk Ian gave before the walk.

The technology nearly let him down and he was thinking about going straight out for the walk. Thankfully, with a second screen and a second laptop, he was able to show his presentation.

I now know that a Waitrose toilet roll has 150 sheets. The Cambrian period, which produced the rocks we live on in this area, would be on sheet 11 and man makes an appearance on the perforation at the start edge of the first sheet!

I came home and started to tackle the mountain of ironing. I try not to iron many clothes, but summer brings out cotton and lines, both of which like to be smoothed.

I did some sorting of Mum’s workroom, had lunch, visited Gillian’s bungalow (was Margret’s) and picked some Discovery apples. They are not the most flavoursome but they are ripe and palatable.

More ironing and now knitting. I have made four premature baby hats and need to choose one for the village harvest show.

The day has extended slowly.

The belted Galloway were in a field by the Military Road. I liked the way there was one in the foreground and the rest as a backdrop.
