MoCo Pride

Montgomery County (MoCo) Pride was formed ten years ago. I was asked to help contemplate if it was needed. Today they opened a physical location to be a community center, a safe space. One of the speakers said that optimism now is not denial but rather necessary for personal and community survival.

I took a little walk while I was there and saw all the places I used to see regularly when I worked right there.

This was the job that fired me for being disabled.

“A half-dozen hardware stores in the District told The Washington Post that they were either out of D.C. flags or have struggled to keep them in stock…. About 80 percent of D.C. residents oppose Trump’s executive order to federalize law enforcement in the city, with about 7 in 10 opposing it “strongly,” according to a Washington Post poll. And 78 percent of residents say they feel safe or very safe in their neighborhoods.”

There is a piece in the Washington Post about a Russian family and the Ukrainian incursion into Kursk. “That Ukraine was able to invade Russia at all, let alone stay for as long as it did, showed that Russian President Vladimir Putin had failed to protect his people from harm. Moscow, which launched the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, proved woefully unprepared for the counterattack. Corruption and disinformation deepened the damage, as many in Russia didn’t initially realize the extent of the incursion.”
