A fête accompli
Rubbish sleep last night meant I was awake early, so I breakfasted early, did all the washing up, listened to Rick Wakeman's latest podcast – his memories of the late Dave Cousins of The Strawbs, – lazed on the settee and it still wasn't even 9am. So I decided to attend to Mirabel the Green Bike's back tyre which has been steadily going down every two or three days ever since I put the new tyres on. Well, I plunged the inner tube in a basin of water repeatedly but couldn't find any air leaks…so I put a new tube in anyway and put it all back together.
This afternoon though was the famous Roslin Fête to which everyone but everyone goes, so I headed there with Mum and Dad and hoped to catch up with various people, not least my brother, s-i-l and Boy Wonder, plus of course my nephdog, the big enthusiastic red labrador. I managed quick hellos with my over-the-fence neighbours, joking that the fête is the only time we seem to catch up, and longer hellos with other neighbours. Of course, the fête is really* a dog show with lots of stall holders, everything from homemade tablet to recycled fabric bags to candles to historical societies (I loved their Renaissance-style outfits!), music, dancing and bouncy castles and magic for the children, and even a bit of comedy this year.
* not really, but kind of :-)
The queues for food (and beer) were long, so I joined the one for the pizza van. The problem was they could only cook two at a time in their oven, so I was waiting about three-quarters of an hour for mine, in which time I missed lots of the dog show. I bought it to share but ended up having to eat most of it myself! At least I didn't need much tea.
Mid-afternoon the drizzle arrived and I had had enough peopleing, so the three of us went back to mine to drink tea. In the end I started to get headachey again, maybe it was the weather, so they went home and I had a bit of toast, and listened to the other half of a super talk by Professor Brian Cox about black holes, the construct of spacetime and the Fermi paradox. Perfectly relaxing stuff, you understand. ;-)
The rain was more or less holding off so there was just time to nip to the supermarket for supplies, before the rain realised it had just missed the Mistress of Moisture and so chucked down for good measure.
