Delgatie Castle
Embarrassingly my Satnav took me to the front door of Delgatie Castle this morning instead of the dog walkers' carpark to which we were subsequently directed. Cosmo and I know our place but before we beat a retreat I got an easy Blip.
The tower house which forns the most substantial part of the structure was built in the 1570s for William Hay of Dronlaw who had married a daughter of the Earl of Erroll. There have been many additions over the centuries so that the castle now has an almost whimsical appearance. These include the doocot in the extra and the adjacent infilled arch at the end of the wing. This was reputedly the site of a chapel and the arch was a tomb recess - the effigy of the occupants being long gone.
