Saturday: Perennial Broccoli

I had a lie in this morning until 7:30 and by the time I’d had a wash and got dressed MrD had eaten breakfast and gone off to our local golf course for a round of golf before the rain arrived.

It was a very calm morning and quite pleasant outside. I started making a prawn curry and walked down to where the perennial broccoli grows sheltered by the greenhouse. I think the plant is “Mr. Curtis’s Nine Star Perennial” https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2909912242566727332 - I harvested a few new leaves and chopped them up to add to the curry.

I’ve experimented with many varieties of perennial broccoli over the years with varying degrees of success! A few weeks ago today’s Blip plant was covered in Cabbage White  Butterfly caterpillars - https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/3398392007964491966 - which I’m not too bothered about, the plants usually recover quickly, as today’s Blip photo shows and may even encourage the plant to make lots of new growth :-)

Other perennial greens I’ve grown:
Jersey Walking Stick Kale - https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2949055220295927754
Wild Sea Cabbage -
Cavollo Nero, an annual which sometimes behaves like a short-lived perennial - https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/3032889
