Stone Circle tour
Another big day out and running late! The weather looking promising we decided to do a stone circle tour and went east towards Rosscarbery. First stop Reenascreena stone circle, the only one in West Cork that has a henge but it was pretty hard to see today. A remote and impressive 11 stone circle, what blew me away were the wild flowers. It was very wet so there was a profusion of unusual stuff - the little blue flowers though, are the remnants of a long forgotten flax crop.
Next stop Rosscarbery for some strong coffee and sandwiches then on to Bohonogh. A mighty circle here but almost fully submerged in the bracken. Will (carefully and respectfully!!) climbed onto one stone to survey the scene. Finally on to Drombeg, the most well known and accessible of circles, which always has a lot of visitors. It was interesting to see how people lingered, just sitting near the stones, no one in a hurry to rush off. All of them are in amazing positions with stupendous views in all directions, Drombeg looking out to the sea. Who knows what went on there.
Back home, a quick spag bol and a watch of the Accountant - I have to confess I hadn't a clue what was going on.
It was a good move to go out for writing this on Saturday morning it is lashing with the delights of a moderate gale to look forward to.
