Tipperary day 3

Today we headed off to see my next favourite saint, and my new favourite village. St Ailbhe (sometimes wonderfully known as St Elvis and he shares my birthday!) was once a very important man and he sounds lovely! He might have been a Brit, possibly a druid and as a baby was abandoned and placed on a rock (by bad King Conan, not sure what happened to his parents).  Whilst on said rock he was approached by a she-wolf who took him in and suckled him. Years later when he was a bishop, an old she wolf was being pursued by hunters and he rescued her her cubs. He became a very holy chap and just before he died, a supernatural boat came and took him to the fairy world, where he was instructed to be buried in Emly. The church, the GAA grounds and the school are still named after him. Emly turned out to be small and colourful and beautifully kept - and it also had an excellent coffee shop where I had a large slice of extremely good apple pie. And check out the decorated holy water urn, found in the very glamorous church.

We then headed home at a sedate pace but absolutely exhausted. Great trip.
