Duffus Castle
Prominent atop the motte which originally supported a wooden fortification Duffus is conspicuous amidst the flatlands of the Laich of Moray. The stone castle dates from the 1300s and was the stronghold of the Moray family for over 500 years. It was abandonned in 1705 by which time it was already becoming ruinous - the weight of the massive stone walls eventually causing slippage in the artificial earthwork. It remains impressive.
