Marjorie's ramblings

Acorns

I had a slow start today, then Annette came to do the cleaning. As usual we combined that with a good chat.

This afternoon I had an appointment to see Jani, the physio. I knew her first when we worked together. After that she went into private practice and she has seen me through arthroscopies, my knee replacement and my hip replacement.

She is diagnostically first rate so I trust her judgement.

She asked me to stand up. I could immediately see from her face that the news was not good. Aggie is in real trouble. The inside of the knee has scrunched down, pushing the joint into valgus. (That is knock kneed.) Arth is artificial and straight.

The valgus deformity in an arthritic joint should not be allowed to deteriorate too far, otherwise it is impossible to correct it with surgery. Gulp!

I need to get into the NHS system and persuade them that I need to fast track to see a surgeon. I now have exercises to do and feel confident they will help, but it is unlikely they will do enough.

Jani pointed out that the whole of my left side is suffering. It explains the neck pain and the foot pain I’ve had recently.

I need time to assimilate this news. No long walks for me in the immediate future it seems, but I’ll do what I can.

These acorns were outside the old chapel where I see Jani. They looked healthy and well developed.

I called to see Liz and Nick on my way home for coffee and moral support!
