Surprise

My colleague and I were called, at very short notice, to a meeting with our Department Manager.

In my experience these things don't usually go very well. Either you get handed a shovel and told where exactly you have to shovel the next load of management prioritised Scheiße to, or it is a who-are-we-going-to-blame hand-wringing exercise.

I was not looking forward to it.

However, as with most things here, it was a really good surprise. "Thanks for all the effort you put into the project, sorry I haven't said thank you before and here's a little something from me. I think it's better than a bunch of flowers."

That makes me think I'm not doing that bad a job after all.
