Tortuga Bay

With no boat trip booked today we walked along to the Charles Darwin research facility to see the work they do in the giant tortoise conservation programme.

In the afternoon we visited Tortuga Bay. The sign up from our hotel tells us it's 800m but that's just to the entrance. It's another 2.5km to the beach and then at least another kilometre to the sheltered bay. A lovely spot but once again poor visibility in the water. From the peninsula I did manage to see a shark swim past while Himself relaxed on the beach. The walk back along the beach was verging on the unpleasant as the sea spray, carried in in the wind, soaked us. The path through the cactus plants however was very peaceful.
