Where eagles dare

We've been so lucky today. On our return to the Douro Prince after a drive up to Castelo Rodrigo, we called in at a photo spot. Our guide, Alexandra said that sometimes you can see eagles.

We did. Four of them circled overhead.

I chose this pic as it gives an idea of the rugged beauty of this area, high, arid and harsh. They say they have nine months of winter and three months of hell. (It can be 50 degrees)

The medieval village of Castelo Rodrigo was wonderful. They are optimistic about attracting tourists but its so remote..... Maybe.

We've reached our furthest point on the Douro but tomorrow we're off to Salamanca for a tour. I can recommend this cruise :-)
