Talbot Village. Marianne Talbot's memorial
Our friends left. Sorry to see them go. Enjoy their company. But now need a couple of days to recover as just not used to having people around all the time. We both need our space.
As they left, we drove off to Slade Farm café car park for a prearranged tour of Talbot Village. I go to Bournemouth Art Society lectures at the church there, and since living here have always wanted to visit the estate and learn more about it.
It was founded in the mid 19th century, and generously funded by the two Talbot sisters, to provide self-sufficient accommodation to the needy. So along the lines of a Bourneville or Port Sunlight Village, with the impressive difference that the Talbots were private benefactors. They were struck by the poverty that existed at that time in the area, and felt they needed to do something about it. The village continues to offer cottages for rental to people working in the local community.
I won't bore you with more details, but you may wish to read more here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talbot_Village
So feet up now and early night.
