The Deadwood Stage
This should have been yesterday’s blip, but the drama of seeing a wildfire in progress when we arrived in Llandudno meant it was held over until today.
Calamity Jane is not a musical I’d ever seen, apart from the original 1953 film. The stage musical was first performed in 1961 and included some songs that had been written for, but not included in, the film. What we watched last night is the modern production of that stage musical, and it sort of showed in terms of the storyline.
But that is to take nothing away from the cast. Not only did they sing and dance their way through the show with great talent and enthusiasm, but all whilst playing musical instruments, moving props and changing scenery! I think I’d have been exhausted just doing one of those things, especially given the heavy looking costumes they all had to wear under the hot lights. A most enjoyable show and one I’m glad we got to see - albeit 64 years after its debut!
Of course, the one disadvantage of going to Llandudno to see the show is the 150 mile drive home so we didn’t get back until well after midnight. And then had to be up and about early for our PT session this morning.
It’s been a quiet afternoon…
