There are currently some major roadworks taking place on the A1(M) around the A64 junction area….they are digging up the Armco and restraining wire barriers and (eventually) replacing them with a new concrete central reservation. The work has been going a few months and is scheduled to complete in summer 2026!! It is causing chaos and there are frequent traffic jams (which spill over on to the local roads as drivers look for shortcuts). The carriageway lanes have been changed and folk are not reading the signs and get confused - and end up switching lanes without thinking (we use this bit of road to get to Doncaster and have seen many near misses)! I have walked along the footpath numerous times when there are jams on the road - and it is usually quicker to walk than drive.

As ever, the Highways Agency is providing a free breakdown recovery service to deal with the numerous accidents and breakdowns - to try and keep traffic moving. You know the signs ‘Free Recovery - Await Rescue’.

Well the people providing the service (on the Southbound side) are living in these little portable rooms..which actually look quite smart inside (I did have a peek at their website). There are three of these - and the associated recovery vehicles parked up in the exit of the old lay-by just north of our village.

I wonder if the same staff are there for the duration of the work or if they rotate shifts!!
