The shape of water
In the life of a parent, I am not sure there are too many more joyful sights to be had than that of your children happily playing in the sea on a hot summer’s day.
No arguing or bickering here, just mutual pleasure and joy in swimming and jumping through and over the waves headed to shore.
Water does something to me too. I am calm whenever I’m near it. There is something about the gentle motion of the sea or the river or even the gentle lapping of the lake at the shoreline which slows me down and gives me room to think. There is a certain irony in water being the elixir of life and yet I don’t really care to drink it fresh and neat!
Surprisingly, another form of water briefly stopped play today and we had to take a little break from the beach due to an unexpected downpour. Though this was not without its benefits as yesterday’s travelling travails caught up with me and I nodded off in Big Blue whilst the children played in the back.
We did the decent thing and had some ice cream before heading back to the beach for more tennis (extra) and paddling once the sun returned.
When we returned to our lodgings this evening, I was able to give my portable barbecue a try out and it seemed to do the job, with post beach burgers and chicken/chorizo skewers going down a treat!
Brilliant day.
