The road home

Well that camp was idyllic in comparison to Saturday's disaster. I slept well in preparation for the long journey ahead...

On the trail by 6am, I soon reached tarmac and hot footed it along the road into sleepy Tarbert where the ferry waited. Once onboard, I headed straight to the single shower I'd found yesterday in the one of the toilets; not a common facility on Calmac ferries I'm told.

Out on deck I watched a pod of dolphins/porpoises cartwheeling in the wake as we ploughed out to the Minch. Soon enough we arrived in Uig and the 2nd class foot passengers were told to wait for the minibus to take them to the terminal...

The Citylink bus took me to Portree for a 30minute stop..time for a trip to the Coop. The next bus took me to Inverness, delayed by some dithering campervans on the A82. Al-fresco lunch in the square, then Scotrail to Stirling, 24minute wait for the Edinburgh train. Home by 7pm. I was exhausted.

I'm glad to have achieved this trip via public transport, even better to have cleaned up my island Corbetts but I'm not going to be in a hurry to repeat the experience. It is possible, just not recommended. At least not if you're time bound. Or not retired ;-)
