There Must Be Magic

Middle of Bald Eagle Creek / Tiger Swallowtail

A couple of unexpected things happened on Friday. One is that we woke up to discover that our telephone was not working. The only phone we have is a land-line phone. So when it's out, that's it. We have NO phone. It's always comical when they ask for a back-up phone number where they can call us to confirm our appointment with the technician an hour before. No. Um. The phone does not work. There is NO other number.

The Internet still worked, so I got online and did a chat with our provider; set up an appointment for someone to come out on Monday. But then they called back later on in the morning and left us a message; the dial tone had been restored, and since the phone was working, they gave us the option to cancel, so we did. Weird.

The second thing is that when we returned home from visiting my mother-in-law, my car, a 2017 Chevy Sonic, threw a code. There was a problem of some kind, and so my husband instantly called our mechanic. Missed him for the week. Left a message. (Gee, I guess it's good our phone was working again, huh?)

On Monday morning, my husband called the mechanic back and managed to get a quick appointment for 2 in the afternoon, just to plug the computer into my car and read the codes, to tell us what was wrong and what needs to be replaced.

Our mechanic is located across the road from Soaring Eagle Wetland, so while my husband took the car to be assessed, I went walking in the wetland. Shortly, he would join me there and we would go wading in the creek.

(As it turns out, the part that it needs is a solenoid of some type. The mechanic says it's okay to take the car on short trips, maybe not so much long ones. The part it needs costs just under $100, and once we got home, my husband ordered the part online before end of day.)

The weather has taken a cooler turn and so it was comfortable there, and breezy by the creek. There were minimal bugs, which was refreshing, though I did get one mosquito bite. We set up our chairs along the bank, and then my husband took his across the creek and sat in it in the shallow water along the other bank.

I put my water shoes on and headed out into the creek. The water was not really cold at all. It was below my knees. I walked around a while and then sighed and went back for my camera because I knew I couldn't miss these views. So above is a lovely green view from the middle of Bald Eagle Creek.

I've got another shot for you in the extras, of a huge tiger swallowtail butterfly who was feasting on joe pye weed along the green pathway. It was one of the biggest butterflies I've ever seen, and it walked all around the bloom and posed quite prettily for me.

You may see a few more photos of Soaring Eagle Wetland and Bald Eagle Creek and of that huge glorious butterfly on Instagram. I need soundtrack songs and so here they are: for the water shot above, I've got the Band, with Up on Cripple Creek, from the Ed Sullivan Show back in 1969. And for my big yellow butterfly, I've got Barry Gibb, featuring Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, with Butterfly.
