Tall Elephant?...
This small, perhaps half of an inch in diameter flower is one of several blooming on a Tall Elephant's Foot, Elephantopus elatus. This easy-to-grow native Florida perennial plant is in the Daisy Family and is named Elephant's Foot not for its flowers but for the shape of the main plant growing on the ground's surface. Take a look at the *extra... The leaves grow flat to the ground in the shape of an elephant's foot. The flowers bloom on tall stalks, some rising up to three feet in the air. Elephant's Foot grows happily in full sun to light shade and moist, well-drained sandy soils. No wonder it grows so well in our yard! These plants spread easily if conditions are right. But they are easy to pull up if they get a little too 'pushy'. Elephant's Foot attracts native bees and other pollinators. I recommend it and so do the buzzers!
