Sunflowers
The other day I realised that the sunflower trail at Balgone Estate near North Berwick would be coming to an end. Last year (September 15th) we went down to see what was left. There was colour by the roadside but we’d missed the full experience.
The other day I saw that today was the last opportunity so booked one of the few remaining slots. It turned out to be a terrific day to visit so lots of- and I mean lots of- photos were taken.
As you arrive you walk up a slope of a hill with only the slightest hint of yellow at the crest. But once there and down the other side is a sea of yellow and a maze to walk through.
At various points in the maze there are photo opportunities. Giant chairs. An oversize swing. A see-saw. And some random doors and windy frames for taking photos. All a bit surreal.
From the air - see their website- the maze is laid out to form flower heads. The scenery in the adjacent fields and the wild flower patches added to the views. As did the pumpkin field which will no doubt open later in the autumn for pick your own - you could pyo the sunflowers too at a cost per stem.
It was a great afternoon and the colour was intense. The dog enjoyed the walk and also some of the melting ice cream at the end.
The evening was rounded off with a 2 hour church meeting. Well, it is not a bank holiday in Scotland.
