Humming in the Garden
I took a chance on the bank holiday traffic and crowds to head to Polesden Lacy for a picnic lunch and wander around the gardens. The traffic was about normal and the estate was humming with people and the overflow carpark crowed. However, I had no trouble parking and the crowds virtually disappeared in the the more remote parts of the garden (and away from the "Summer of Play" activities!)
I spotted grasshoppers on the Japanese anemone in the walled garden and though "Great ... my shot of the day". However one of those has been relegated to extras as there was a hummingbird hawk moth flying around and feeding on Chinese plumbago in the rose garden. Although they are fairly common I have only seen them a few times, and have never been able to capture them up close. So 90-odd shots later you have one for today's blip. You probably need to look large to see its proboscis.
