I was four stories and around 100 pages in to Highway 13 before I looked up Highway 13 on Google Maps. The one in Australia runs 116 km south-west from Brisbane to the Qld-NSW border and hasn’t appeared in the book so far. Instead there’s been a highway through a state forest in Vic, the highway from Sydney to the Southern Highlands, an unnamed highway where a young English hitchhiker disappeared, and a highway serial killer’s family home. None of the stories fall into the category of crime fiction. More crime-adjacent.

I’m enjoying the stories so much I set off to blip the Princes Highway, originally a section of National Route 1 that starts near here, but preferred this shared path.
