A First!
After a short morning shift setting up Aber Cafe, made briefly more interesting by a 5 minute power cut, I met up with C for a walk with Megs at our favourite place. After a sit of each of two benches on our circuit, one in the sun and one in the shade, we walked back to the cars, passing through the flowery corner of the meadow. A flash of yellow caught my eye and we had soon spotted two butterflies, different to anything I have seen in the UK. Clouded Yellows, a regular summer migrant through the South of the UK but seen only very occasionally further north through the UK. The latest data on Butterfly Conservation website suggests annual sightings in single figures at best for most of Wales. I've never seen one before so this was a special moment. It seems that just occasionally they have bumper years when conditions are just right, this may be one of those years. I saw another back home, flashing through the garden soon after I got home.
A quiet few hours at home with Ruth over lunchtime and a short visit to a neighbour for a neighbours get-together which was rather lovely, then back to work again.
The latest Sunset Special was not as busy as most of the others but with one extended family ordering meals for everyone, I was kept very busy for a while. A day off tomorrow, a lie in perhaps. Certainly planning a more restful day than I have had for a while although I will be at Bryncrug Country Fair in the afternoon with my pottery on offer.
