I Planned to Make Bread Today…

… (We are expecting visitors on Tuesday, and despite all advice to the contrary I find that home made bread does freeze well for a short time, so it’s worth making it early).

The bread, however (despite this being my favourite flour, you’re welcome) is not the issue.

I have used this flour for decades. Our local bakery in Walsall (long closed down I believe) used it for our favourite loaf. They had a queue, which we joined every Saturday morning for it, hot from the oven… I sourced the flour and used it myself.
After some twenty odd years I moved to Oxfordshire where, to my surprise and delight, the very mill that milled it was situated just down the road, I passed it on my way to work!

Then we moved to Derbyshire, where the flour took some finding but Chatsworth Farm Shop were most helpful (though this particular pack came from Ludlow).

I’m painting the picture here to emphasise how many packs of the stuff I must have opened.
Hundreds!
Yet… Never (NEVER) have I managed to open the stitches in the way they are clearly intended to fall apart! Always (always) I have ended up using scissors and covering myself in a puff of flour.
So, what ‘went wrong’ today?
I had a moment to myself, that’s what.

And I googled it!

Ooohhhhh.

(Note the neat trail of string).

One lives and learns! :-)
